Our annual Memorial Day Ceremonies were held at Town
Hall's John Layman Park, at Lake Peekskill, and a special SINGER
MEMORIAL REDEDICATION to Judge Wilbur F. Singer and Ensign Gilbert C. Singer
was held at Singer Beach in Lake Peekskill. It was attended by Brigadier
General Donald L. Singer, cousin to the memorial's namesakes, and his Honor
Guard. Two rounds were fired in honor of the late town Justice and the young
fallen Ensign. Services were continued at VFW Post 391, and concluded with the Round of
Honor at several cemeteries in the local area.
Many dignitaries showed up for the swearing in ceremony of
Councilwomen Wendy Whetsel, Jackie Annabi, Highway Superintendent Earl
Smith, Judge Gina Capone and Supervisor Robert Tendy.

The Color Guard of Putnam Valley VFW Post 391 performed
this beautiful ritual at the final resting place of the Namesakes of the
Post, Robert Gillen & Robert Vinscotski. They VFW fired the cannon
once for each decade that these soldiers have been deceased. Videotaped at
Rose Hills and Hillside Cemeteries.
This year's annual Veterans Day Ceremonies featured
special salutes by the scouts and Sheriff Don Smith. After the tributes at Town Hall's
John Layman Memorial Park, Lake Peekskill, & VFW Post 391,
the Color Guard gave buddy poppies to appreciative veterans at the nearby Cortlandt nursing home.
